A Charming Late Victorian Large Gold And Blue Enamel "Souvenir" Locket - Lovely. Of round outline, the polished gold locket, enhanced by applied cobalt blue enamel with hand engraved leafy floral highlights, the back marked "Souvenir". Souvenir, French for "memory", or "to remember", jewelry became stylish in the late Victorian Era when the wealthy and connected traveled to Europe for "The Grand Tour". The weight is 12.34 grams.
The locket being 8mm thick, its chamber could be used for a photo or a keepsake, perhaps a lock of hair. The enamel has no chips or cracks, if you flash the light just the right way across the surface and view under magnification you can see some surface wear. Light creases to the flat "souvenir" back. This is very very nice.
